Hiking Trips with a Difference
" Only fifty minutes from the coast and situated 1 hour from Granada. "
A good starting point for many a hiker is Trevelez, at some 1476 metres, it is claimed to be the highest village in Spain. Along with this is its strong personality and traditional ways, making it a very relaxing and peaceful place to visit. Three of the highest mountains in inland Spain, Mulhacen 3479 metres, Alcazaba 3364 metres, and Veleta 3396 metres, are situated in the Alpujarra.
It is a hikers paradise, with either low level walks or arduous high mountain trips. This region has been overlooked for many years, surpassed in popularity by the sometimes crowded Pyrenees and the Picos in northern Spain.

I fell in love with Capileira many years ago. It is one of the whitewashed villages I stayed in while I hiked the trails of La Alpujarra and the peaks of Spains highest mountains. It must have been the narrow rocky streets, the typical square flat -roofed houses, passing mules and a sense of a village that time has forgotten, hidden from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
